Last year, Bark Nation, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending dogfighting and saving the lives of animals, worked with local law enforcement to rescue 108 dogs from Michigan’s largest suspected dogfighting operation. One of the dogs that was rescued had been left outside, chained up and relying on a dilapidated doghouse as its only shelter. Despite being blind, the dog was able to be saved thanks to the efforts of Bark Nation and their partners in law enforcement.
After a thorough check-up by a veterinarian, it was found that the adorable male dog was unfortunately blind due to the aftermath of dogfighting. It was heart-wrenching to think about how he had to endure living outside, vulnerable to all weather conditions with no sight. Jessica Brown, the Director of Operations at Bark Nation, expressed her sympathy for him. He went by the name “Turkey Jerky Snack” or simply “the KING”, and it didn’t take long for the staff and volunteers to fall in love with him.
Turkey is adapting well to her stay in the shelter, but she dreams of finding a permanent home where she can belong. Despite her troubled past, Turkey is now open to giving and receiving unconditional love. However, navigating unfamiliar surroundings can be daunting, especially when you have impaired vision. To ease Turkey’s mobility, she has a customized wagon that she uses regularly to venture outside.
This adorable dog is in search of a loving home where he can curl up on a comfortable couch and enjoy some cuddles while watching movies. Despite being completely deaf, he loves to go on adventures, especially to the park. However, his favorite place to be is by his owner’s side, snacking on delicious dog-friendly treats and enjoying a good film. In fact, his ideal day would be spent having a Disney movie marathon, eating cheese pizza, and snuggling with his humans. The shelter even gave him an acting award at their Bark-ademy Awards ceremony for being such a lovable and entertaining pup. Turkey is hoping that his newfound celebrity status will help him find a home faster, preferably with a fenced-in yard and a patient family who can help him adjust to his new surroundings. Although he would benefit from having a furry companion, gradual introductions are recommended. If you’re interested in adopting or fostering Turkey, please visit the shelter’s website. Don’t forget to check out the other dogs available for adoption, including those rescued from dogfighting rings.
