Unforeseen incidents can occur even to our beloved pets. This unfortunate event always leaves a sour memory for those who have gone through it, just like Fergus and his family.
Fergus, a charming Irish wolfhound weighing almost 90 kg, had been residing with his owners in Nashville, Tennessee. His life was going great until an unfortunate incident occurred on January 30 when he and his owner Mickey McKay were hit by a car at a city intersection. The collision was so intense that poor Fergus was thrown into the air and, confused by what had happened, he ran away from the scene. Although Mickey and his spouse emerged from the accident unscathed, they were heartbroken to discover that their dear pet had gone missing.
Meredith Lucket, daughter of Mickey, recounted how people immediately sprang into action after Fergus got lost due to an accident that occurred 30 minutes prior. The area was swarmed with search parties and rescue teams that set up feeding stations to help find him. Despite the extensive effort, finding Fergus still proved to be a challenge. He was well-liked in the community, as evidenced by over 200 people who joined Meredith’s “Find Fergus” Facebook group. The search for him continued non-stop from that day on.
The famous quote “where there’s a will, there’s a way” proved to be true as the family’s plan finally succeeded. Despite the rapid spread of the news, the family remained unable to locate their lost pet. With each passing day, their hope dwindled while the search continued. However, the determination of the family never faltered and they persisted in their efforts. The daughter of Mickey described how, at a certain point, vehicles driving two miles away from the accident site even had their lights flashing, causing traffic to slow down – a testament to the extent of the search efforts.
Meredith recounted how they spotted Fergus hobbling towards Judson Baptist Church after the accident. Despite their tireless efforts to look for him, they began to lose hope until a neighbor contacted them with news of his discovery. The family was overjoyed at the prospect of being reunited with Fergus.
The Lucketts were overjoyed to find their beloved dog, Fergus, on the streets. Meredith shared that they were contacted early in the morning by someone who found Fergus 8 km away from the accident site. The moment they reunited with Fergus was captured in a video that went viral on social media, bringing tears to the eyes of many who watched it. The scene touched the hearts of pet owners who can relate to the happiness felt by the Lucketts. Meredith couldn’t help but cry when she saw Fergus again, and Fergus showed his happiness by wagging his tail, snuggling up on her shoulder, and howling. Fergus is a gentle giant, a bit of a diva, and loves being indoors. After the reunion, Fergus was taken to a vet and confirmed to be healthy despite being lost and neglected for several days. Fergus’s story highlights the power of social media and collective effort in reuniting lost pets with their families. At Zoorprendente, we encourage everyone to use social media to spread positivity and help pet owners like the Lucketts share their stories when their pets go missing. There is no limit to what we can achieve when we work together.
